OCALA, Fla.- SCF Softball dropped two heart breakers at College of Central Florida. Both losses were decided by one run each. SCF lost 1-0 and 5-4.
In the first game sophomore ace Paige Mathews went seven innings and struck out four. College of Central Florida's Tori Stamper shut the Manatees offense down with six strikeouts and giving up only four hits. Crystal Cyr led SCF going 2-for-3. Megan Tice and Laura Gavern added the other two hits for the game.
In game two the Manatees rallied back after the Patriots went up 4-0 in the 3rd inning with back-to-back homeruns. SCF answered with three runs of their own in the fourth inning. Ashley Burney hit her fourth home run of the season and Cindy Micochero had a sac fly RBI in the fifth.
"You can't score runs with the bat on your shoulder," said SCF Head Coach Meredith Headings. "We are being umpires at the plate instead of hitters. Central Florida stepped up and swung hard, we've got to change our approach and attitude at bat".
SCF is FCSAA ranked No. 2 with a 10-4 record. The Manatees host Santa Fe College on Saturday at home for a 1&3pm doubleheader.
