Ashley Burney named FCSAA Player of the Week
TALLAHASSEE, Fla.- State College of Florida’s Ashley Burney is this week’s NJCAA Region 8/FCSAA Softball Player of the Week. Burney, a sophomore from Palatka, Fla., batted .500 (10-for-20) with five runs scored, two home runs (1.000 slugging percentage) and 13 RBI in six games during the voting period. She hit safely and drove in at least one run in each game of doubleheaders against Daytona State (March 5), Palm Beach State (March 7) and Illinois Valley (March 9). Burney’s top games came in game one against Daytona State, when she was 3-for-3 with a two RBI, and game two against Palm Beach State, when she was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, a home run and two RBI. She capped the week with her first career grand slam in game one against Illinois Valley. For the week, Burney also recorded four doubles and drew three walks.
