Softball Splits with Santa Fe

Bradenton, Fla - State College of Florida softball celebrated sophomore day and recognized all 10 second year players.  The Manatees are ranked #6 in the state, but were unable to pick up two wins for the sophomore class. Instead SCF split games with out-of-conference opponent Santa Fe College.

Although it took a couple innings for the Manatees to settle in SCF pulled out a win. Excellent offensive performances from Brandi Bunker 2-3 (2 RBI's) and Jessica Harney 2-4 including the game winning come from behind hit in the bottom of the 7th. Kayla Maxwell earned the 6-5 win and has a seson record of 12-5.

The Manatees dropped game two 7-6. SCF was losing 7-4 and mounted a comeback in the bottom of the 7th, but could not pull it out. Erica Ward had an excellent offensive performance going 2-2. Jessica Reid is now 17-5 after the loss.

Coach Schuerman said, "We had been living on the edge with 3 in a row come from behind victories in the bottom of the 7th. It was bound to happen that the ball just didn't go our way in the last game. We need to continue to improve our focus on winning every inning."

The Manatees play at Hillsborough Community College Thursday April 16th.  First pitch is at 5:00.
