Vero Beach, Fla - State College of Florida earned its 16th consecutive berth in the Florida College System Activities Association (FCSAA) State tournament. The Manatees qualified with a second place finish in the Suncoast Conference. SCF was 32-16 overall and 14-5 in the Suncoast Conference during the regular season. SCF is ranked sixth in the most recent FCSAA Coaches' Poll.
SCF comes in to the tournament after beating the Mid-Florida Conference Champion, College of Central Florida, in the season finale. CF is ranked second in the nation.
The Manatees open play Friday April 29th against Seminole State College. The Raiders finished third in the Mid-Florida Conference. The Manatees won all three of the previous meeting between the two teams in the regular season. First pitch is at 1:30 pm in Vero Beach.
In the second round of the tournament, SCF will face either Tallahassee Community College or Indian River State College at 6:30 pm. Indian River is ranked fourth in the nation and won both games against SCF in the regular season. TCC finished fourth in the Panhandle Conference and has not played SCF this season.
The tournament is a double elimination format and continues through Sunday May 1st at Dodgertown in Vero Beach. Two teams from the tournament will advance to the NJCAA national tournament in St. George, Utah.
