SCF Tennis team, State runner-up and NJCAA National Tournament qualifiers
TAMPA, FL- .TAMPA, FL- SCF finished as runner-up at the FCSAA State/NJCAA Region VIII tournament. SCF finished second to Florida State College at Jacksonville. Cari Berry, a product of Lakewood Ranch High School, won the #2 singles flight and earned All-State honors. At the #3 singles position, Abby Martinez, earned the championship and All-State honors, for the second straight year. Martinez's only loss to Junior College opponents occurred last year in the national semi-finals. Also, in singles play, Wei Lai was the #1 singles runner up. In doubles action, Berry and Martinez partnered up to win the #1 doubles tournament. Mia Popaja and Lai Wei were runners up in the #2 doubles flight. In the first three years in the short history of the Manatees tennis team, we have earned two state runner up and one state championship. For the third straight year, the Manatees will play in the national tournament May 5-9 in Tucson, Arizona.
