BRADENTON, FL – State College of Florida, head women’s volleyball coach Carmine Garofalo, is pleased to announce that Hannah Curtis of Mishawaka Indiana is the first recruit to sign with the Manatees for the 2013 volleyball season.
Curtis is a six foot tall outside hitter and two-time All-Northern Indiana Conference team member who will bring additional height and power to an already strong front line.
“All of us at SCF are truly excited about Hannah being our first signee for 2013”, commented Garofalo. “With a strong returning freshman class, we have been very patient and selective in our efforts to find not just the best players but more importantly the right players. Hannah is a smart, strong hitter and all-around player who will make an immediate impact”.
In high school, Curtis was a dual sport athlete playing both varsity tennis and volleyball. Captain of her volleyball team, she was named Most Valuable Player. She also received N.I.C all conference honors and was recognized as WHME athlete of the week, Kiwanis student athlete of the week as well as offensive player of the year.
Curtis had offers to play at a number of schools and made her decision after visiting SCF. "I'm excited about attending SCF because of the strong program, coaches and I really enjoyed meeting the girls” stated Curtis. “It'll be a neat experience to live in such a beautiful part of the country while playing the sport I love the most."
Off the court, Curtis was Student Council Vice President, a member of the National Honor Society as well as the Mayor’s Youth Council and Stay in Bounds ambassador.
“As attractive as Hannah’s volleyball background and résumé are, the thing that really caught my attention,” said Garofalo, “was her wonderful character and personality. Hanna is a great fit for our program and volleyball culture. She will make an important contribution to our program both on and off the court; one that will allow us to continue competing at the highest level”.
