Freshman Paige Mathews FCSAA Pitcher of the Week

State College of Florida’s Paige Mathews is this week’s FCSAA Softball Pitcher of the Week. Mathews, a freshman from Oviedo, Fla., has posted a record of 3-2 with one save, 38 strikeouts and a 0.79 ERA through her first six appearances of the season. After starting the season 1-2, despite allowing only eight hits in 8.2 innings pitched, Mathews turned it on during the second weekend of the season. She earned the complete-game shutout against Santa Fe on February 4, allowing only four hits and striking out eight. The next day, she played a role in both ends of the doubleheader against Palm Beach State. In game one, she tossed a one-hit shutout and struck out a career-high 13 for the victory. In game two, she notched the save by striking out six in four scoreless innings to run her scoreless innings streak to 18. Thus far, Mathews has allowed only 15 hits and six walks in 26.2 innings pitched.
