BASKETBALL: Catching up with Coach E - 12/10/12
After a tremendous weekend for our program at the Florida College Men’s Basketball Shootout, I cant help but to think about how our team embodies our motto, ”ALL IN ALL THE TIME.” We have had such an amazing season so far and it is due to the amazing young men that are a part of this program. There are so many examples of just how"team first" each player is. While this is only my first year as a head coach, I have been an assistant at this level for nearly 10 years. This group may not be the most talented, but they certainly are a tight group that has found a way to come together in such a short time to become a FAMILY. There have been a lot of obstacles that this group has had to overcome. Now that we are making waves (MANATEES) I feel it is only right to share some of the moments that have brought our team together.

| This "Catching up with Coach E" idea came
to me after our win against Tallahassee. We were at the hotel, it
was about 10:30 at night and my assistant called me. Normally as a
coach, a call at night in a hotel usually means
trouble……well, our team, I mean every single player,
was down at the pool playing "Marco Polo". It was really an
unbelievable sight as a coach to see my entire team, who just 3
months ago met each other, bonding together and just enjoying the
moment. It was a great feeling. Another proud moment happened about one month ago. We had two young men from the Special Olympics come to a practice. Our team played H-O-R-S-E with them and had a fun dinner with them. It was a really great moment that our team still talks about today and they can’t wait to have those guys back here to watch us play. |

Just a few weeks ago, Isaiah Williams, Devon Hodges, myself and a few other athletes went to Bayshore Elementary School to read to the children there and talk about the importance of education. It was such a special moment to watch the students eyes light up when we entered the room. It was a great experience for our players to see that they are role models and how the youngsters really look up to them. We will be reading to many of the local schools throughout the year to give back to the community.

Catch up with me next week!
