STATE TOURNAMENT: Catching up with Coach E - 3/5/2013
Coach E writes in from the road to the FCSAA/Region 8 State Tournament in Marianna, FL.
We have been getting prepared for a tough opening game against
College of Central Florida. They have the longest active streak (8)
of tournament appearances in the state. Head coach, Tim Ryan, has
put together a team that is very difficult to guard because they
have weapons at every position. The Patriots play very hard and
because of their size and athleticism, they play an active 2-3 zone
that is very difficult to score against.
Our team is very familiar with theirs. Central Florida is the
only team to beat us twice this year. They are also the ONLY team
that beat us at home:105-83. They are led by Eugene McCrory, a 6'8"
lefty post player, who recently committed to the University of
Central Florida. McCrory is averaging 16.3 points per game.
This is going to be a very tough game. Central Florida is ranked #2 in the state #9 nationally with only 3 losses. We will have to bring our "A" game. If we can get out in transition and get some easy baskets, it will really help us. I think the keys to the game will be to keep their offensive rebounds under 12, and we need to shoot 20 or more free throws.
We are on the bus to Chipola right now for our state tournament. I will be doing a Coach E. “diary” throughout our trip so stay tuned!
CATCH UP WITH ME SOON!
Coach E
