Chloe Murphy is ITA National Champion and earns James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award
MOBILE, Ala.- State College of Florida's Chloe Murphy won a national singles title on Saturday at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) small college tournament. Lai Wei and Murphy were also the national runners-up in women's doubles. In addition to these titles, Murphy was also the recipient of the James O'Hara Sargent Sportsmanship Award for the 2012 ITA National tournament. Murphy (Liverpool, England) defeated Tyler (Texas) Junior College's Fausthy Pietersz 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 in the Junior College Division final. Murphy and playing partner Lai Wei finished second in the juco doubles bracket, dropping a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Tyler's Pietersz and Nelo Phiri. The ITA comprises four small-school divisions: NCAA Division II and III, NAIA and junior college. After winning the juco title, Murphy competed in the Super Bowl, which pits the champions of each division against each other. She fell 6-4, 6-3 to the NAIA champion, Tiffany William, of Auburn-Montgomery after playing multiple matches over two days in both women's singles and doubles including a 3-hour singles final.
