Opening Day for Tennis at Broward College

Ft. Lauderdale, Fla - The SCF women’s tennis team opened their season, on the road, with an 8-1 victory over #10 nationally Broward College.   SCF enters the season as the defending  NJCAA Region/FCSAA State Champion.  The Manatees are currently ranked #3 nationally.

On an overcast and windy day, SCF started the match by sweeping the doubles matches to give the team a 3-0 lead.  In singles play, last year’s state champion at number one singles, Natella Nabieva, showed she is determined to defend her title.  Nabieva defeated Marie Sanchez in three sets,  6-1, 1-6, 6-2.  The team went on to win 4 of the remaining matches with the only loss at #2 singles where defending state champion Miranda Talbert was upset by Broward’s Haley Briggs 6-3, 6-3.

The Manatees are 1-0 on the season, with the next match at home against Hillsborough Community College #23 nationally on Tuesday, February 3rd, at 4 p.m.
