Tennis Wins Two in Texas

Plano, TX -  State College of Florida tennis bounced back from Friday’s loss to #2 Tyler Texas by decisively defeating #6 Cowley 7-2 and #9 Eastern Arizona 8-1.  SCF came out of the blocks in the morning match fast, winning all 3 doubles against Cowley setting the tone for the Manatees.  Once the singles started there was no doubt to the outcome of the match as #3 Sarah Peek, #4 Amiena Houston, #5 Mikala Lowrence and #6 Casey O’Toole all won their matches losing a collective total of 4 games.  That left SCF’s #1 Natella Nabieva and #2 Miranda Talbert on the court where both fought hard but dropped their matches in a third set tie-breaker.

In the afternoon match the Manatees continued their winning ways by beating #9 Eastern Arizona 8-1 in under two hours.  The team captured all the doubles and 5 of six singles losing only 13 games.  The only loss was at #1 where Nabieva withdrew after dropping the first set 6-1.

Coach Clayton Taylor stated, "I am very proud of the team for the way they responded to their first loss of the season to #2 Tyler.  We started each match playing aggressive doubles and never let up."      

The next match for the 5-1 Manatee’s will be Sunday at the Collin Tennis Bash, where they will face #7 Seminole State College (OK) at 10:00 a.m.
