#3 Tennis Completes Undefeated Season at Home
Bradenton, Fla - State College of Florida women's tennis team cruised to victory over the #9 Titans 9-0 to finish undefeated at home with an 8-0 record. The Manatee’s continued their dominance in double’s starting the match with a sweep. SCF’s #1 team of Miranda Talbert and Sarah Peek remained undefeated as they beat #12 ranked Jazz Whittaker and An Tagashira 8-5. Finishing off the sweep of the doubles were Natella Nabieva and Ameina Houston at #2 winning 8-1 and Casey O’Toole and Mikala Lowrance at #3 who won 8-6.
The Manatee’s dominated the single’s winning all six and losing only one set at the number two positon where #19 ranked Talbert found herself in a battle with SPC’s #31 Tagashira. After winning the first set Talbert got off to a slow start in the second and dropped it 6-2. In the third-set tie-breaker Talbert raced to an 8-4 lead but Tagashira fought back to tie it up at 8 all. After losing 2 match points Talbert finally won the match on a forced error from Tagashira capturing the tie-breaker 12-10. Nabieva also got some revenge today beating the #16 Whittaker who recently beat Nabieva last week at SPC.
Coach Taylor stated “This team played lights out at home this year going 8-0 as a team with a combined record of 66-2 in singles and doubles. I would bet there is not a tennis team in the country no matter what the division that can top that record”.
SCF now 13-1 will play #18 Eastern Florida on Friday at 2 p.m. in Melbourne.
