#3 SCF Women’s Tennis Drops Close Match to #2 Tyler Junior College
Bradenton, Fla - The Manatees tennis team fought to the last matches but could not knock off Tyler Junior College as the Apaches came out on top 6-3.
Bradenton, Fla - The Manatees tennis team fought to the last matches but could not knock off Tyler Junior College as the Apaches came out on top 6-3. SCF started slow dropping all 3 doubles matches to start the match down 3-0. The Manatees came out strong in the singles as Mikala Lowrence won at #5, Sarah Peek won at #3 and Casey O’Toole won at #6. This knotted the team score at 3-3. #42 Ameina Houston playing at the #4 position went to a tie-breaker in the first set. After dropping the tie-breaker and then was forced to retire. With Tyler now up 4-3 in matches, #19 Miranda Talbert fought to the end but lost to #5 ranked Elizabeth Bagerbash 6-3, 6-4. Tyler captured the remaining match where #1 ranked Joanna Savva bested #4 Natella Nabieva 7-5, 6-3.
Coach Taylor stated that he felt the Manatees came out tight in the doubles and that was the deciding factor in the match. "We started four freshmen and they had four sophomores and their experience pulled them to victory in the end."
The next match for the 3-1 Manatees is Saturday at the Collin Tennis Bash where they will face #6 Cowley at 10:00 a.m. and #9 Eastern Arizona at 3:00 p.m.
