Baseball Shuts Out Eastern Florida
State College of Florida received a dominant performance on the mound and timely offense to secure a 4-0 victory over Eastern Florida State College.
SCF pitchers combined to limit Eastern Florida to just three hits across nine shutout innings, while the offense capitalized on key opportunities to provide early support.
Lochlan Radloff earned the win, improving to 1-2 on the season after tossing three scoreless innings. The right-hander allowed just one hit and struck out two. Aidan Ray and Cole Dement followed with two scoreless frames each, with Dement striking out three. Bernard Barnes closed the door with two hitless innings, striking out three to complete the shutout. As a staff, SCF pitchers allowed only two walks and struck out nine.
At the plate, SCF collected five hits and scored four runs, with contributions spread throughout the lineup. Dominic Woodward provided a key offensive spark, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Ben Ryan added a 2-for-2 performance, including a double and an RBI, while Josh Castellani also doubled and drove in a run.
Mattie Counts scored a run and added a stolen base, and Ryan Kaitz crossed the plate once as SCF built its advantage. The Manatees benefited from solid situational execution and took advantage of a defensive error by Eastern Florida.
Eastern Florida starter Couper Gatch (0-1) took the loss despite striking out eight over four innings, allowing four runs (two earned) on five hits. Breylynn Courtney was sharp in relief, striking out seven over four scoreless innings and not allowing a hit.
Offensively, Eastern Florida was limited to six hits and struck out 15 times. Dominic Woodward accounted for the team's lone home run and RBI production, while Ben Ryan and Josh Castellani each contributed an RBI. Mattie Counts added a stolen base, and the Titans turned one double play defensively.
