Baseball Defeats St. Pete In Late-Inning Nail-Biter
State College of Florida showcased resilience and timely execution in a hard-fought 9–7 win over St. Petersburg College, using clutch hitting and a composed bullpen to take control when it mattered most.
SCF's offense was both balanced and opportunistic, capitalizing on key moments throughout the game. Ryan Kaitz led the charge with an impressive 3-for-5 performance, driving in three runs and consistently setting the tone at the plate. Calin Heath was equally impactful, scoring three times while adding three RBIs, proving to be a constant threat on the bases and in scoring situations. Josh Castellani added two RBIs of his own, helping SCF maintain offensive pressure across the lineup.
Early in the game, SCF jumped out with a productive offensive stretch, taking advantage of walks and defensive miscues to build momentum. Even as St. Petersburg College mounted a response, SCF never lost its composure. Instead, they leaned on disciplined at-bats and situational hitting to regain control late.
The defining moment came in the eighth inning. With the game hanging in the balance, SCF capitalized on free passes and delivered timely hits to push across two decisive runs, creating separation that ultimately secured the victory.
On the mound, SCF's bullpen played a pivotal role in preserving the lead. After starter Trevor Zeigler worked through the early innings, a series of relievers combined to steady the game. Vincent Cooke delivered in a critical late-game spot to earn the win, while Riley McDonald shut the door in the ninth inning with a confident performance to record his third save.
