Bio
Jorge Garbey brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in the game of volleyball. He was a member of the Cuban Men’s National Volleyball team from 1973-1981 where he participated in 4 World games (three 2nd places and one 7th place finish), 2 Central American games (two 1st place finishes), 1 FIVB World Cup (3rd place finish), 1 World Championship (8th place finish), 1 Pan-American Games (1st place), 1 Central America Games (1st place), and during the Moscow Olympics in 1980 (7th place).
Jorge was able to turn his love of Volleyball into a career, becoming a coach. He was fortunate enough to be an assistant coach for the Cuban Women’s volleyball team, where they made numerous appearances in the Olympics, World Championships, Pan American Games, World Cups, Champions Cups, Central American Games, FIVB Grand Prix Volleyball Games, and NORCECA Championships. Coach Garbey was able to help secure 3 Olympic Gold Medals for Cuba as well as numerous other Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as an assistant Coach.
Coach Garbey was tapped to be the Head Women’s Volleyball Coach from the Dominican Republic Women’s Volleyball team, where he was able to take them to the Athen’s Olympics (10th place), Pan American Games (Gold Medal), World Cup (10th Place), FIVB Grand Prix Volleyball (11th place), NORCECA Championships (2 Bronze medals).
Coach Garbey has a degree in Physical Education Science from the Higher Institute of Physical Culture, Comandante Manuel Fajardo, Havana City, Cuba
