SCF Volleyball Wins First Two Games on the Season

SCF Volleyball earns two wins, including one conference win, during their second week of play.

The Manatees defeated Webber University JV on Thursday, September 11th, and defeated Florida State College at Jacksonville on Saturday, September 16th.

Versus Webber University JV

The Manatees won in three sets, 25-11, 25-12, and 25-22. Fourteen players appeared in the game, which is the most in a game for the Manatees this season.

Versus Lake-Sumter State College

The Manatees played undefeated Lake-Sumter and lost in three sets, 25-15, 25-16, and 25-16.

• Liliana Palacios - 18 assists
• Baylea LaHay - 14 DIGS

Versus Florida State College at Jacksonville

The Manatees played well in all three sets, but ramped it up in the third set defeating FSCJ 25-13. Liliana Palacios had a particulary strong game as the primary setter, finishing with 57 assists. SCF had three payers with double-digit kills -- Ava Turner, Aryanna Spainhower, and Maya Sharp. The defense had a strong day, as two players earned double-digit DIG totals. The team finished with 66 DIGS overall.

Versus St. John's River State College

The Manatees faced another difficult Region VIII opponent in St. John's River. The Vikings entered the match with a perfect 5-0 record in Sun-Lakes Conference play. SCF battled, but ultimately fell short in three sets. SCF's best set came during set two, where the team lead for most of the set. The Vikings tied the second set at 18-18 before rattling off 7 straight points to move to a decisive third set. The defense for the Manatees was strong, as they accumulated 94 DIGS. Three players had double-digit DIGS, led by Aryanna Spainhower with 27 total DIGS.

Upcoming Week:

The Manatees are right back at it on Tuesday, September 16th, at 6:00 pm versus St. Petersburg College at home. The team will travel to Pasco-Hernando State College on Friday. SCF is tied with five teams for fifth place in conference play. Two of those teams, Pasco-Hernando State College and St. Petersburg College, will play the Manatees this week in a battle for conference supremacy.
