BRADENTON -- When Tré Bryant finished his high school basketball career at Braden River in 2012, he left as one of the greatest 3-point shooters in Manatee County history. He had a few opportunities to play in college, but couldn't find the right fit and sat out the 2012-13 season.

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla.- At the urging of his high school coach at Lakewood Ranch, Brian Cobb began playing pickup basketball games at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg. Mustangs coach Jeremy Schiller was an assistant basketball coach at Eckerd and thought Cobb could use the exposure.

BRADENTON, FL- Freshman shooter from Denmark, Anders Haas, signed a letter of intent with NCAA Division I University at Albany in the America East Conference. In the 2013 season, he averaged 17 points per game and seven assists for the Manatees.

BRADENTON, FL- Sophomore guard, Denzel Myers, signed a letter of intent with Lander University. Lander is NCAA Division II and in the Peach Belt Conference. Myers is a two-year starter for State College of Florida.

Life can begin at any age. All you have to do is create a little magic. Manny Zafiros took care of that detail 48 years ago when he went played for the first Wichita State men's basketball team to reach the Final Four. Until this weekend, it was the school's only Final Four appearance. Zafiros has stayed close to the sport. For the past four years, he has been the public-address announcer for the State College of Florida basketball team and was the athletic director at the old Bradenton Prep. He recently celebrated his 70th birthday and has become a celebrity. Zafiros was in Los Angeles when Wichita State won the region championship last weekend. He was one of two players from the 1965 Wichita State Final Four team in Atlanta on Saturday, and the media was chasing him around like he was Justin Bieber.

BRADENTON — Isaiah Williams looked one way and saw guns, drugs and a chance to make fast money. He turned his head and saw a basketball. Most kids in his downtrodden Newark, N.J., neighborhood would've taken the risk and gone for the cash. Williams isn't like every kid. He picked up his basketball, went to the playground and shot and shot, and dribbled his way out of the streets. But nothing has come easy for the 20-year-old State College of Florida freshman.

COLORADO, CO- The Manatees picked up a crucial victory last week behind Oleka’s stellar play off the bench. The freshman connected on 13-of-16 shots from the field, compiling a game-high 32 points in a 101-88 win over Hillsborough CC (Fla.). Oleka came close to a triple-double in the game, adding a game-high 17 rebounds and eight assists in the performance. Despite starting only one game this season, Oleka is averaging 10.9 points and 6.2 rebounds per game.

Using their frenzied style of basketball, the Manatees wore down visiting St. Petersburg College and earned a trip to the state tournament with a 95-73 victory Monday night.

TAMPA, Fla.- SCF Men's Basketball landed six players on the Suncoast All-Conference teams. Isaiah Williams was named the 2013 Suncoast Conference Player of the Year. Three Manatees were named to the first team all-conference and three earned second team honors.

BRADENTON, Fla.- SCF Men's Basketball beat Hillsborough Community College 101-88 in their final regular season. SCF was trailing 45-50 at the half. The Manatees went on a huge second half run scoring 24 points go ahead of the Hawks 86-73 with a little over five minutes left in the game. SCF went on to secure the victory and lock in a berth to the Suncoast Conference Tournament Championship, Monday at home, 7pm.
